If you're a summer fanatic like I am, then the back to school commercials have been haunting you since you were a kid. I still remember the feeling of "nnnnnoooooooooo, summer's not over yet!" I would get when everyone was prepping for school time because it meant the long days were going to soon make way for colder/shorter ones. Mind you I've lived in Cali most of my life, so the struggle wasn't that serious. We never truly experience seasons in So Cal--but we like to pretend that we do, and a changing season is most obvious in warm climate areas by fashion and makeup than it is by rainy or snowy days. When seasons change in the midwest or east coast, the fashion is about looking fab, but even more about survival from frostbite than it is about wearing your favorite knee high suede boots you got on sale at TJ Maxx to make a fashion statement.
So, what better way to get over the summer blues and pumped for fall than to think about all of the cool makeup trends we'll be trying this year! Before we talk makeup, of course we must first talk skincare. Colder windier months means dryer skin. Even if you have oily skin, you want to be sure to include a hydrating mask (at least in the areas where you get dry) along with your clarifying mask when doing your weekly or twice weekly facial. Here are a few masks to try:
Origins Drink Up™ Intensive Overnight Mask ($26)- This intense moisture replacement mask with avocado and apricot kernel oil deeply and instantly quenches compromised moisture reserves and builds a reservoir for tomorrow. Best for dry skin types, Japanese seaweed repairs skin's barrier to prevent future dehydration and signs of premature aging.
Olay Regenerist Luminous Sleeping Gel Mask ($25)- Not only is this drugstore option affordable, but it feels surprisingly luxurious, too. This super-hydrating gel-based mask is made with vitamin B3, mulberry extract, and humectants to help fade dark spots and create a naturally luminous complexion by morning.
DIY Mask- If you're wanting to make a mask at home. You can either simply use the Manuka Honey I recommended in my skin care blog or take it up a notch and smash up 1/4 cup honey, half an avocado, and 1/2 cup plain yogurt to make a super hydrating mask. Apply for 15-20 minutes while you're catching up on your favorite show.
Now for the fun part!
Much like fashion, trends for the seasons are set by what we see on the runway. So, it's a good reminder that trends should be used as inspiration to try something new. Ultimately, fashion and makeup should be a reflection of who YOU are and you should only try looks out of curiosity or because it makes you feel fab. As much as I'm excited to try new looks, there are also some looks that I just know won't ever make it on my visage (like bleached brows). So here's what's up for Fall--take it or leave it, but most importantly, have fun with it!
Dark and smokey eyes are in yet again. But it's not just a traditional smokey eye, the runway brought us looks with all kinds of variations on black liner. From funky graphic shapes, to liner just in the water line, to black liner that is smudged out until it's grey--you can pretty much do anything on your eyes with black liner and you'll be on trend.
